Know Your Strengths and Weaknesses
Remember, if you don't have a particular skill, you can find somebody else who does and bring them in to help you. --Marie Swift
To get your message out, you need to know your strengths and weaknesses. How good are your writing, speaking and presenting? Do you have natural networking and conversational abilities? Being honest about your skill set is hard, but important. Remember, if you don't have a particular skill, you can find somebody else who does and bring them in to help you. A good place to start is to rate yourself, from 1 to 5, for each of the following:
-writing
-speaking/group presentation
-networking/1-to-1 conversations
-marketing/PR experience
If you are a strong writer, opportunities to play to your strength include creating a website, newsletter or special report, writing a book or composing print and Yellow Pages ads, client surveys, email and/or direct mail pieces (e.g., letters, postcards, email or greeting-card campaigns).
