Planners with no interdisciplinary ties can start by finding an estate planning attorney, Bowen says. Estate planners regularly work with other professionals and will likely have a network you can tap, he says. He suggests visiting your local Estate Planning Council and asking members to identify the top estate planning attorneys in your area. Some people recommend asking clients for referrals, but Bowen cautions, "Just because they’re working with your clients doesn’t mean they’re good."
